WHITMAN, ALABAMA

An Emmy-nominated documentary that uses poetry to explore the threads that tie us together

Whitman, Alabama is an experiment that uses documentary and poetry to explore the threads that tie us together as people, states, and a nation. Journalist Jennifer Crandall filmed Alabamians as they shared moments of their lives and recited verses from Walt Whitman’s book-length poem “Song of Myself.” As a writer, I was nominated for an Emmy for my interviews with the filmmaker, as well as the readers.

I think that every person should leave their ink stain on the world. Anytime you want a niche to call your own, choose something that is hard to do, takes a lot of time, earns very little money, and that niche is all yours. Not a good reason other than hubris. If you look up hubris in the dictionary my photo is right there.
